HO. LY. CRAAAAAAAAAPPP!!!!!!!

THIS AUTHOR IS EVERYTHING. THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING. I DIE AND LIVE FOR THIS BOOK. IT WAS EVERYTHING I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED. (Did I mention it was everything?)

Redmerski seriously always writes exactly what I need AND I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW I NEEDED IT! POST-APOCALYPTIC ROMANCE?! YES. YES YESSSSSS!!!!!

Redmerski became front-and-center on my radar after reading The Edge of Never a few years back. Which was my #1 FAVORITE book at the time. Then it was beat out by ANOTHER Redmerski book, Song of the Fireflies. That book remained my #1 favorite until last year but both are still in my top 5. Her In the Company of Killers series is also super amazing. Redmerski was my FIRST favorite romance author and she remains a top favorite to this day. The Edge of Never and Song of the Fireflies are both 6 Star books for me, and this would have been too, except there’s a mighty cliffhanger at the end. Once the next book comes out I may change this to 6 Stars. Who knows? 😉

Okay, enough rambling, back to THIS book. Favorite book of the year so far? It’s definitely one of them. It was just so perfect. Thais and Atticus’ love story was so beautiful. Their love story alone deserves 5 Stars. Add in the suspense and danger of a post-apocalyptic world? I have no words. I don’t know how to write a review to give this book justice.

It’s super long. Over 600 pages. It gets dark and ugly and brutal, but it’s addictive and mesmerizing and worth every single page (plus more. I need more)

Keep in mind that this is taking place after the end of the world. It’s not smooth-sailing by any means. There’s racism, sexism, homophobia, abuse, violence, murder, death, etc. Some themes may be disturbing to some readers. Thais and Atticus go on a dangerous journey to escape all of that ugliness and to live in freedom. They hope to bring peace and acceptance to the new world.

Atticus is a flawed man. He’s a murderer. He works with evil men even though he despises what they do. But Thais brings out a change in Atticus. By the end of the novel we get to see him grow into a better man, one who isn’t afraid to step up and speak out for what is right. Say hello to your new book boyfriend! He had me swooning. Hard core. The dialogue in this book is top notch. Get ready to fall in love with Atticus Hunt.

“‘When you die,’ I whispered, ‘you won’t need the soil to hold you, Thias, because I’ll be right there next to you to hold you myself,'”

I love Thais!!! She was so sweet and innocent yet so strong! She went though SO much! More than anybody should have to endure in their lifetime, but she never lost herself. She always remained Thais. She found her voice along the way, and became courageous, wanting to change the injustices of the world.

“‘I’ve chosen you every step of the way, in every breath, with every bit of my broken heart and my broken soul, and I choose you now, and tomorrow, and every day after it!'”

Together, they made the perfect match. Redmerski knows how to create the perfect couple! Thais and Atticus were polar opposites and yet they worked so well together. Their chemistry was amazing and made my heart so full! Thais and Atticus’ love for each other was passionate, intense, and unconditional.

“And I opened my eyes and looked up at the man I knew I would die for one day, and my heart, as always, was full”

Okay. Now. THAT ENDING. HOLY CLIFFHANGER!!!

It had me on the edge of my seat! My heart was RACING! I was absolutely FREAKING out! Going into this book, I thought it was a standalone. IT IS NOT. AND I WAS NOT PREPARED. All I can say is: I need book two. NOW. My little heart could not take that ending!

This book will take you on a long, dangerous, exciting journey. These characters will stay with you and you will fall so in love with them! I want to read it again, and again, and again! I’m so happy there’s going to be a second book because I need more Thais and Atticus!! Redmerski is a Queen and I love her forever and ever. I wish I could’ve written the epic review this book deserves, but it’s left my brain in a pile of mush. READ. THIS BOOK.

Where to even begin with this review! I have had to sit and process what I read because this book took me on a wild and adventurous ride through this post-apocalyptic dystopian world. I commend this author on how fantastic she has crafted this world to be realistic. It was beautifully written, flawlessly executed and I have to say this is the BEST dystopian book I have read in 2018. I was blown away by it; it was enthralling and captivating.
Thais, the main heroine of the story, is the utter image of innocence. Barely an adult herself at 19 years of age, she was forced to grow up faster than expected. With the fall of society and the world transforming to chaos, Thais had to struggle her entire life just to survive. When an attack forces her and her sister from their temporary safe haven where they lived in a small mountain village with others trying to survive like them, Thais is set on a path that she wasn’t prepared for. I loved the purity that the author brought to Thais in a world full of corruption, rape, murder, drugs, and oppression. Thais is the beam of hope, the light in a very dark world.
Atticus has earned himself a place in the top of most loyal and honorable heroes that has ever been written. He is a good man struggling to survive in a world dominated by evil men. He is a top dog soldier that struggles with his morality to do what is right, when everyone is doing what is wrong. He is forced to live a life he doesn’t agree with, losing himself to the darkness of what the world has turned into. Then Thais enters his world unexpectedly and he does everything in his power to keep her light shining bright.
Both set out on a mission to survive in this world and find a safe place in a world that has evil lurking in every corner. The characters created in this world will keep you guessing if they are honest to goodness nice people or if they are the bad in the world that Thais and Atticus are most afraid of. The author will keep you guessing, never knowing who is good and who isn’t; never knowing who they can trust and who they can’t. And that ending! AHH! I can’t even process and I can’t talk too much because I don’t want to give this book away too much. You HAVE to read it!

I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I’d give it more if I could! It sucked me right in. I read it all in one LONG sitting. I highly recommend this book for ALL dystopian lovers. It is the best one out there yet! I found myself cursing at the author and crying throughout this book. She brings this world to life and makes you feel as if you are Thais herself or Atticus himself. Perfection! Utter Perfection!
