As a long time fan of Catherine Anderson stories I found this one disappointing. I remember reading the blurb of this book when it first came out. It promised a story of Erin and Wyatt with no mention of Vicki or Slade. I was surprised when I came to buy the book that the storyline had changed from what I had been looking forward to reading!

I could not stand the character of Vicki. I felt that she was immature and had no redeemable qualities. Throughout the whole book she caused Slade nothing but grief over a simple misunderstanding that could have been fixed much sooner if she would have just grown up instead of living in the past.

I'm only giving this book 2 stars because I enjoyed the mini chapters of Erin and Wyatt, although I'm unsure why they were even put into this book because there is so much potential for their own story and they didn't need to be background characters in this book! Hopefully Mystic Creek book 6 will be more like Catherine Anderson's other much loved books!

Catherine Anderson has done it again! Catherine writes with so much love and enthusiasm that it truly shows in her books. It is very easy to connect with the characters and we feel their emotions so much that we laugh at their antics and their thoughts. Catherine is a gifted storyteller, and her fans will not be disappointed!!!
I adore Catherine Anderson's writing. As with all of her books I was quickly drawn deeply into this one but feel that if she wasn't going to share more about Erin and Wyatt, just the names could have been mentioned to set the stage for another book. With Vicki and Slade, I felt Vicki was immature in how she couldn't believe Slade about the past and how dragged out it was and then not much dimension to their relationship in the end. The pranks were beyond ridiculous. I liked how this book gave a lot of insight into the life of wild animals and all of the things people need to consider before rescuing (or not rescuing them).
I absolutely LOVED the story line between Vickie and Slade. I loved reading about an older relationship and seeing how after all the years they waited to get together it finally happened. I wish we would have seen how the reunion went with meeting Brody and a little of getting to see how they interacted with each other. That part of the story seemed a little rushed. I really enjoyed getting to also know Erin and Wyatt. I wish the storyline would have also continued with them more than it did at the end. BUT, that does mean they will get their own book???? I really hope so!
I did like the book. The characters were well developed and even if they did not develop as I may have expected, they were real. I would have liked to see more of Erin and Wyatt but Slade’s and Vickey’s stories needed to be told.
Catherine Anderson has a beautiful way with dialogue and descriptions of scenery, I love her stories.
A great addition to the Mystic Creek series. I'm glad that Slade and Vickie finally got their happily ever after, but I wish it didn't happen so late in life. It would have been great for Slade to have more children. I hope future Mystic Creek books will give us a glimpse into how the family is meshing together and how Erin and Wyatt will get together. Hope the next story comes quickly. No matter how soon it comes it will still feel like a ling time. I would recommend this book and the entire series to any adult reader interested in lots of trials and tribulations but ultimately win through to happy endings.
Slade Wilder has been a bachelor all his life because the love of his life had accused him of cheating and called off the wedding decades ago. He has been working the family ranch and living a solitary life.
He has put an ad on Craigslist looking for camp cook for his camp in the mountains for hunters and who answers it but old girlfriend Vicki. She has a hidden agenda and wants to make Slade pay for ignoring a son she thinks he knows about but of which he has no clue.
A lot great laughs and tears do happen reading this book.
Anyone who loves dogs and bears will get a kick out of this book. Another great read by one of my favorite authors Catherine Anderson.
Waited so long to read this and was totally disappointed. The fact that Vickie didn't give Slade a chance to explain all those years ago was annoying. And I'm sorry, the pranks she pulled were beyond ridiculous. Was she twelve? And don't even get me started about the whole cat fight at the end. If i had been reading in paperback it would've been thrown against the wall. But can't do that with the . Not enough Wyatt and Erin to keep my interest and even their story wasn't that great.
